Battle of the Somme- July 1, 1916 The Battle of the Somme, taking place in France was the largest battle to take place in WW1 with over 1 million casualties overall.
Battle of Yser- October, 1914 The Battle of Yser, took place along the Yser river, it was a defensive attack against the German advance. If the battle had been lost all of Belgium would have been ruled by Germany.
Battle of Tannemburg- August 23, 1914 Standing as Russia's worst defeat in WW1, the German Army stopped the two-pronged attack strategy of the Russian army.
The Battle of Jutland- May 31, 1916 The largest naval battle to take place in WW1 and the largest to take place ever with battleships as the primary weapon. Occurring just of the the Jutland Peninsula in the North Seas the outcome of the battle is undecided, however the German Navy would never attempt an attack on the British after.
Gallipoli Campaign- April 25, 1915 The 1915 Gallipoli Campaign failed because British forces were unable to establish control of the Dardanelle Straits, also the sea and land attacks failed as the result of faulty intelligence and fierce Turkish resistance.
