The report card by Andrew Clements is a story about a girl named Nora who wants nobody to know she is a true genius, not an average kid. But, when report cards come home, things start to get complicated. Nora"s report card shows three D's, and only one C. Her parents schedule meetings with every fifth grade teacher. That"s when Nora"s secret spilled. Come on, read more to find out!
In the beginning, Nora learned how to read at age two, she did not tell anyone though. Why? She did this because she did not want to read her own bedtime stories at night or make her brother, Todd mad. She pretended she only knew how to read when she was in first grade. She kept the secret, and she was such a smart two year old, she might have been able to write a few sentences!
In addition, Nora spent kindergarten in Mrs.Bridge's class hiding under the table, pretending to be a cat and at snack time Nora poured milk into the bowl she brought from home. Everyday, at 11:53 am, Nora used to dust off her knees, and ride the bus to afternoon day care. Everyone thought she had a mental problem, Nora did not want everyone thinking she"s weird, so she stopped it. The reason she did that was because her secret would spill.
Lastly, one Saturday morning, Nora"s siblings were in bed and she was up. Her parents asked her about her terrible grades and she did not reply to them. She got grounded and she just sat down and read. She was allowed out of her room for meals, prayers, and going out to the church. Until her parents let her out of her room.
In summary, I believe Nora wanted nobody to know Nora is a genius, not an average student. I gave three reasons to prove it. I hope you agree with me and enjoyed my summary. Maybe I'll make more thesis statements to prove for the report card!
