A new concept called work-life balance has attract widely attentions as employees from blue collar workers to upper management are experiencing overwork in the modern society. A growing number of people is complaining they cannot enjoy their personal life due to heavy workload.

There are various reasons for this imbalance and conflicts in the life of an employee. It is widely believed that the main culprit for the growing gap between work and life is globalization.
The global economic climate perpetuates and exacerbates notions of efficiency that involve fewer people doing more work. In addition, there seems to be a pervasive underlying belief in business that harmonizing personal life and work requires a trade-off between profit and people and the profit are more important. For instance, working as a nurse always requires for extra time spending in hospital with patients, which has always been conflict with their personal life.

Apart from globalization, the speed of advancement of information technology increasing competition in the talent supply market thereby brings more pressure on workers. This situation especially likely to happen on those who specializing in area of IT, medicine and business. Also, many people find it difficult to say "NO" to others especially their superiors. They usually end up over burdening themselves with work. The increasing responsibilities on the personal front with age can also create stress on personal and professional fronts.

As a world, we are still learning how to deal with globalization at an individual and family level. We need to strike the right balance, in terms of distribution of work and output, between globalization and localization.
