-player 1 -actively makes the play-(passing/outplay defense)
-player 2 -reacts to the play-(followup/shot on net)
-player 3 -predicts the outcome of the play and reacts accordingly-(positions properly to follow where the ball will likely go)
-player 3 transitions into player 1 or 2 if needed
-player 1 transitions to player 3 after making play unless there is no player 2, if there is no player 2 player 1 either makes a new play or if player 3 is available to transition into player 1 then player 1 can become player 2
-player 2 transitions to player 3 when boost is gone

PLAYER 1 - MAKES THE PLAY
PLAYER 2 REACTS TO THE PLAY
PLAYER 3 PREDICTS WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT AND POSITIONS ACCORDINLY(PROTECTS AGAIST CLEARS AND ROTATES IN WHEN NEEDED)

if last man back with no incoming support your goal as a defender is to 1.protect net 2. stall for time
if another player can make it back to net in time then the closest person to the play will challenge and force the enemy to give up possession UNLESS A TEAMMATE WITH A BETTER SHOT CAN GET THERE IN TIME BEFORE OPPONENT)


AM I GOING TO BE THE ONLY MAN BACK TO DEFEND A SHOT?
YES - STALL FOR TIME/GET IN THE WAY/MAKE IT HARD TO SHOOT
NO - CLOSEST PERSON CHALLENGES INSTANTLY (UNLESS A TEAMMATE HAS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AN UNCONTESTED HIT, IN THAT CASE ROTATE TO BACK OF NET)


-------------------------- defensive theory
player 1 (active)makes the play (attempts a clear/infield pass or 50/50 if no boost)
player 2 (reactive) will move to follow up on player 1s decision and keep ball controll possession
player 3 (predictive) will protect net unless they predict that net is safe and in that case they can get boost, rotate with player 1 after player 1 makes a pass (dont leave goal open if you can see player 1 is about to 50/50 as there is risk of a scoring opportunity after a lost 50/50
