Corey Jordan, who works as a web developer, said that his winning numbers were picked at random by the game’s Quick Pick feature. He bought his ticket on Thursday. On Friday he returned to the store to check his ticket. Jordan also miraculously won the jackpot on an Instant Scratch game that Thursday.

On hearing from the cashier that he had won, Jordan said that his initial reaction was to feel thankful. However, he remained calm and collected his winnings on the following Monday, while the life-changing news sank in.

While still trying to absorb his winnings, Jordan said he wanted to continue his days normally by heading to work as usual. Even though he had not told many people, some of his colleagues and friends had caught wind of the news and were expressing great delight on his behalf. It was only after seeing peoples’ reactions that it all began to sink in.

“It was hard to stay calm about it when others were getting so excited,” he said.

When asked how long he had been playing the lottery, Jordan said, “Right around the time I was 18." This dedication finally paid off for Jordan, whose favourite games are Mega 6, Instant Scratch, and Super Lotto.

Despite his big win, Jordan says that he wants to remain humble and “This money will help my family, as well as close friends pay off some debts and make life a little easier for them and myself.”

Fontana Roach, brand manager of The Barbados Lottery was keen to express her pleasure at Jordan’s win.

“Mr Jordan is a very deserving winner of the jackpot, given his commitment to the games over the years. I am extremely happy for him.”

Roach also took the opportunity to encourage more people to play, pointing out that The Barbados Lottery supports many good causes such as the National Sports Council and The Barbados Olympic Association.
