After WW2, America was worried about the potential damage that humans might inflict on Mother-Earth. With the destruction of the weapons dropped on Japan still fresh in their minds, the citizens began to fear what would happen if one were to drop on their own country; destroying millions upon millions of acres of land and infrastructure. Hence, with this new fear in mind, and billions of funding from the worried people; the government decided to make a new weapon that was more eco-friendly. Instead of destroying the Earth and its precious lands, they decided to make something that would destroy the human mind instead.
This was the start of a fatal project, that would turn out to be very successful in its purpose.
The project focused on finding a way to kill without the use of radiation (which could pollute the air), nuclear weapons (which could destroy land), and other methods that could have potentially damaged Mother-Earth. After years of researching and going through documents, they finally found their answer. “Demente” were parasites that America had created to spread to the human brain by bite of another human. The government came up with the idea from looking into Fungi of the genus Ophiocordyceps and from watching Zombie apocalypses. With this, people will slowly become insane, start biting other humans to spread the parasites, and then when the work is done; they will end themselves. To the government, this was a very successful investment. No longer will Mother-Earth be harmed because the parasites can only spread to human and no longer will the people have to worry about the upcoming wars.
