'Oranges' by Gary Soto
This summary is mostly about how the speaker when on his date and it was pretty interesting, who knew that an orange would basically save a person from being historically embarrassed? That is what happened to the speaker;on his first date ever he had a nickel and two oranges in his pocket. The speaker stopped by the store to buy 'his girl' some chocolate, but the chocolate cost a dime; he then uses the orange to to pay off the left of the money, the great part is that the counter lady already know what was going on so he is a very luck boy ;).

The Poem starts off as them being not so comfortable each other; 'I touched her shoulder' he seemed very shy when he was first around the girl, and he did not say a word to her; he just smiled. As they walk down the street they pass a few things until they stopped by a Drug Store.

This is where the things escalate, As they walk into the drug store; there is a counter lady 'light in her eyes' 'a smile starting at the corner of her mouth'. He offers his girl a chocolate and that makes her feel more comfortable around him, but he only has a nickel to pay for a chocolate that cost a dime! what should he do? What he does is very funny, he pays the chocolate with one of his oranges and the nickel; the lady accepted. Mission Accomplished!!.

In this part it is where they get very comfortable around each other,after they got out of the store they held hands for two blocks without saying a word 'I took my girls hands in mine for two whole blocks' he said. It was very cold and probably very memorable that day because that Orange definitely changed his life <3. Later that he let her stop to unwrap her chocolate while he peeled his left over orange he had in his pocket.

The Orange was already very important to him already but it symbolized something. Since that day was very cold and foggy; the Orange was bright and it symbolized Love, it symbolized love because; as he said in the poem 'The gray of December that, from some distance, someone might have thought I was making fire in my hands' The fire symbolizes Fierce things and strength, the color of the orange was very strong and that symbolizes there Love.
