Whomping Willow terkenal sebagai salah satu tanaman di Hogwarts. Whomping Willow ditanam sekitar tahun 1971 untuk menyamarkan pembukaan jalan rahasia terkemuka dari Hogwarts ke Shrieking Shack di desa Hogsmeade.
Remus Lupin diizinkan untuk melakukan perjalanan tanpa diketahui dari Shrieking Shack, di mana ia mampu menjalani transformasi sebagai manusia serigala dalam privasi.
Pada tahun 1992, Harry Potter dan Ron Weasley tak sengaja menjatuhkan 'Weasley Flying Ford Anglia' ke atas pohon tersebut. Pada tahun 1993, Harry Potter Nimbus 2000 sapu hancur ketika jatuh dari udara menjadi cabang-cabang Dedalu Perkasa itu.
