Secondly, in the article "Why are your clothes so cheap" it talks about the life of a 14 year old garment worker. Garment workers are the people who mostly likely made the clothes you are wearing right now. Most garment workers are poor and need money badly. Kalpona only started working in these worn down factories because her father could no longer provide for the family. In the text it states,"As the family faced starvation, Kalpona had no choice but to quit school and get a job in one of Dhaka's many clothing factories". This was a regular thing that went on in Dhaka. Most kids had to work in garment factories because of the problem they were going through. Dhaka was a very poor country and child labor was common. But this isn't the only thing she had to go through, the company was cheating her and many other workers. In these clothing factories it was cramped and in terrible conditions, this is the life Kalpona had to choose. In the text it states, "At lunch--the only break she would get in what would be an agonizing 14-hour day". She is only a 14 year old child, kids like her aren't even in school for that long.

"Kalpona received even less than that. Her first paycheck was three dollars, for a month of work".

This shows the company was cheating her and many other workers, these people should be getting paid 50 cents an hour. Not only was her and many other workers getting cheated, but they had to work in poor conditions which no person should be working in for 14 hours straight.

In the text it states,"The room filled with blinding smoke, burning Kalpona's throat."..."Accidents were common, especially the serving of fingers".
