( Songkran )
Songkran merupakan salah satu festival di Bangkok. Diselenggarakan di Thailand dan 2 tempat lainnya. Dikenal sebagai perayaan sebagai Hari Tahun Baru tradisional.
Perayaan penting bagi umat Buddha dan juga pesta kerajaan yang penting.
Songkran berasal dari bahasa Sansekerta yang berarti ayat astrological. Selama adanya Festival, Silom Road dan beberapa jalan lain ditutup mulai siang hari sampai malam pukul 21.00
Festival ini diselenggarakan pada tanggal 13 sampai 15 April. tetapi dapat diperpanjang sampai 5 hari dari 12 April hingga 16 April.
Songkran menandai akhir dari musim kemarau dan awal musim hujan tahunan di bulan kelima tahun lunar Thailand. Bagi warga Thailand, April adalah bulan terpanas.
Kegiatan warga pada saat festival Songkran antara lain :
- ritual pencucian patung Buddha
- menawarkan makanan ke para Biksu
- membangun pagoda dari pasir
- melepaskan burung dan ikan ke alam
- dan perang air.
Metropolitan Waterworks Authority yang menyediakan air gratis kepada pengunjung di Silom Road selama perayaan.
Ada 3 tempat dimana kita dapat ikut serta dalam perang air yaitu di Bangkok, Chiang Mai atau Phuket.
Peraturan perang air :
- tidak membawa barang elektronik atau gunakan waterproof case
- perhatikan pakaian yang dikenakan
- jangan melempar air ke pengemudi motor, balita ataupun orang tua
- jangan melempar air es atau air kotor
