The Ankara Castle is one of the Turkish capital’s oldest sights, dating back to the Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman Empires.
ven though the exact date of its initial construction is unknown, some people believe the Hittites (an ancient empire that ruled over north-central Anatolia in 1600 BC), who had a military garrison in Ankara, built the Ankara Castle. However, due to the lack of archeological artifacts to substantiate this fact, the castle is more often associated with the Roman, Byzantine, and Seljuk eras, during which time the structure underwent several renovations.

Buna karşılık Frigyalılar döneminde adının Ankyra olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu adın “gemi çapası” anlamına gelen “anker” den türediği, Frigya kralı Midas’ın bir gemi çapası bulduğu yerde kenti kurarak bu adı verdiği ileri sürülmektedir. Ama bazı tarihçilerde kenti Galatların kurduğunu ve Mısırlılarla yaptıkları savaşta, ellerine geçirdikleri Mısır gemilerinin çapalarını zafer ganimeti olarak yanlarına aldıklarını, bundan esinlenerek kentlerine de Ankyra adını verdiklerini ileri sürmektedirler. Romalılar döneminde gemi çapası Ankara kentinin arması olarak kullanılmış ve sikkelerin, madalyaların üstüne çapa simgesi basılmıştır.
The Rahmi M Koç Museum is the first major museum in Turkey dedicated to the history of Transport, Industry and Communications.The Rahmi M Koç Museum Ankara was built in 1522 during the reign of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman by Damat Rüstem Paşa who was married to the Sultan's daughter Mihrimah Sultan. Though it was built close to 500 years ago, the Çengel Han Still stands and is one of the few buildings of the Han district of Ankara to have retained its original form.

Kanunî Sultan Süleyman döneminde1522–1523 yıllarında yaptırılmıştır. Hanın Mihrimah Sultan'ın eşi Damat Rüstem Paşa'nın vakfına bağlı olduğu bilinmektedir. Beş yüz yıla yakın bir süre önce inşa edilmesine rağmen günümüze kadar ayakta kalabilen Çengelhan, Ankara'nın hanlar bölgesinde özgünlüğünü bugüne kadar koruyabilen ender yapılardandır. Han, Ankara Kalesi'nin ana giriş kapısının karşısında, eskiden At Pazarı olarak anılan mevkide, bedestenlerin yakınında konumlanmıştır.
