so your on earth, and you want to go back in time to meet your old great grandfather, so you get into your FTL machine and you leave earth traveling faster than light. what you would begin to notice is that the earths rotation would slow as well as the fact that people are moving backwards, if you traveled far enough out of space, and then traveled back to earth still traveling faster than light, wouldnt you still be able to see your so called great grandfather? the answer might appear to be yes because you'd still be able to see him for a brief moment during your return to earth but as you continue your travel towards earth the globe would appear to speed up because you are traveling forward through time. so in theory it is impossible to travel through time. what your thinking is traveling through time is the illusion of seeing past things from a far away vantage point. think of it like a mail carrier: your great grandpa sends you a letter from the sun to the earth that will take 1 light second to arrive. you travel to the sun during that one half light second in only a quarter of a second and you see him sending the letter at the speed of light, since you traveled faster than light technically you'd be able to see the letter when it was sent, and then speed back to earth before it arrived to receive IN THEORY YOUD BE OVERTAKING THE MAILMAN, LIKE INTERCEPTING A REPORT CARD. or heres another example. your at home and your school is sending you a deficiency. you really want to know whats on that before your parents see it but it is traveling to your house in a sealed envelope, if you traveled faster than light far enough into space you'd be able to peer into the past and see what was written if your telescope was powerful enough, but no matter how fast you zoomed back the action was completed and you cant change nothing. THIS PROVES EINSTEINES THEORY THAT TIME TRAVELS SLOWER TO AN OBSERVER MOVING FASTER THAN LIGHT FAR AWAY FROM AN OBSERVABLE POINT. in other words if you were looking at lets say 9 11 exactly at the moment that it happened and then zoomed away at the speed of light, if you timed it well enough you would be in parallel with those photons that are in association with the the 9 11 disaster. in such a way time for you would stop because your viewing the same event for an infinite amount of time, you'd just have to keep traveling at the speed of light in order to stay right next to the "beam of light thats transporting the even of nine 11 into space.
