Menurut penelitian, kitab ini sudah mulai dicatat sejak tahun 1600 masehi silam. Konon, kitab ini berisi kumpulan sihir atau mantra dari empat penyihir legendaris yang berasa dari dataran Islandia.
Beberapa pakar ilmu sihir menyebutkan jika kitab ini terdiri dari beberapa bagian, yaitu mulai dari bagian yang berisi mantra positif hingga bagian yang berisi mantra negatif.
Mantra-mantra tersebut bisa digunakan untuk mencelakai atau membunuh orang lain. Untungnya, hanya beberapa orang saja yang dapat membaca isi kitab ini.

Kitab ini sebenarnya mempelajari ilmu tentang terbentuknya alam semesta atau lebih dikenal dengan teori kosmos dalam ilmu astrologi.
