CPR / AED NOTES
- Always give direct orders
- Ask if they were on any meds, allergies, or if they did not do anything wrong
- Call 911
~ Good Samaritan laws to protect people who voluntarily give an emergency situation
~ Obtain consent before giving care, giving care to the level of training and do not stop giving care until EMS personnel takeovers.
Check-Call-Care
1. Check the scene and look around
- Is the scene safe - if unsafe, call 911 - check what happened - how many people - any life-threatening
- check the person-- call by their name - tap the shoulder - check the bottom of the foot - check normal breathing-- if no breathing or no response, get help ---- 5 to 10 seconds
2. Call 911
3. Provide the care that they need until the EMS arrives.

Call First or Care First?
If you are alone and there is no one to call for help, you may need to decide whether to call first or care first.
~ Call first situations are like to be cardiac arrest
~ Care first situations include breathing emergencies and life-threatening bleeding.
Call First-
* Any person who is about 12 years older who is unresponsive
* child or an infant who you saw suddenly collapse
* the unresponsive infant or child who is known to have heart problems.
Care first-
* An unresponsive infant or child younger than 12 years who you did not see collapse
* A person who is choking
* A person who is experiencing a severe allergic reaction and has an epinephrine AUB injector
* A person who has life-threatening bleeding
Lowering the Risk for Infection
- Using personal protective equipment can help lower your risk for getting or transmitting an infectious disease when giving care
- Latex-free disposable gloves and CPR breathing barriers should be included in the first aid kits
- Keychains kits may contain gloves, breathing barries, or both.
Checking a Responsive Person:
S=Signs and Symptoms
A= Allergies
M= Medications
P= Pertinent Medical History
L= Last Food or Drink
E = Events Leading Up to the Incident

Check the Head and Neck, Shoulders, the Chest and Abdomen, the Hips, Legs, and Feet, the Arms and Hands, the Back.
If necessary call 911

Heart Attack occurs when blood flow to part of the heart muscle is blocked causing cells to die and leading to permanent damage to the heart muscle.

The signs and symptoms of a heart attack:
-Looking pale/blue
-Pain that radiates
-Dizziness/nausea
-Fatigue
-Anxious
-Trouble breathing

Cardiac Arrest:
Adult-
Recognizing
CPR
AED
Life Support
Hospitality

30 compressions= 2 breaths
Continue unless
Signs of life
EMS
AED
Too tired to continue

CPR:
Firm-Flat surface
Interlace fingers
A hands-on center of the chest
Shoulders over elbows over hands
Compress chest
At least 2 in -adult
At least 2 in -child
Head tilt/chin lift
Continue CPR

-Child
