کروناویروس ها دومین عامل شایع اسهال در توله سگ ها بعد از پاروا ویروس هستند. این بیماری به شدت واگیردار بوده و در سراسر جهان گسترش دارد ولی شدت بیماری به اندازه پاروا ویروس ها بالا نیست و نسبت مرگ و میر پایین تر و شانس بهبود بالاتری دارند. سگ های بالغ معمولاً به این بیماری مقاوم هستند ولی توله ها بسیار حساس می باشند.
مهم ترین علامت بالینی در ابتلا به این ویروس اسهال «گاهی خونی» می باشد ولی برخلاف پاروا ویروس استفراغ کمتر دیده می شود. شدت اسهال نیز به نسبت پاروا ویروس اندکی خفیف تر می باشد. برخلاف پاروا ویروس ها که به تازگی برای سگ ها بیماریزا شده اند، کرونا ویروس ها برای قرن هاست که عامل اسهال در سگ ها می باشند.
توله هایی با سن کمتر از 12 هفته به فرم شدیدتر بیماری مبتلا می شوند همانند بسیاری از بیماری های ویروسی این بیماری نیز درمان مستقیم ندارد و دامپزشک شما با سرم تراپی و رفع دهیدراتاسیون و ایجاد تعادل الکترولیت ها و تجویز آنتی بیوتیک یک درمان حمایتی را انجام می دهد.
این ویروس شباهت زیادی به ویروس «FIP»در گربه ها دارد.
بقایای این ویروس در خارج از بدن نیز بسیار بالاست و حدود 6 ماه در خاک باقی می ماند. بهترین راه جلوگیری از ابتلا به این بیماری واکسیناسیون توله ها است.
