From someone that finds English very difficult. To be honest, my first impression of this class was that it is going to very challenging because it was my first time in taking a college course. After being in this class for five weeks, I have gained a new understanding that there many different styles of writing. And that grammar isn’t something that shouldn't be worried the most. It is more of the creativity that is put in the essay to the audience.
The personal narrative essay was really easy for me to write. Because the plot of the story is about me. I can share my story with the audience of understanding who I am as a person.
Within just 5 weeks of writing like 4 essays in total. I did improve my writing skill in using BIG vocab towards to my essay which it makes my essay more interesting to read. But, I find it very complicated because I’m usually that person who would use simple words so it can make it easier for myself. In my mind, like I just don’t know how to use very detail vocab in my essay. When I wrote my personal narrative essay, I started to use better vocab to describe the situation that was happening in my story. I put all my effort into that paper, I had reserved a letter A-. I was really proud of myself and realized to improve your writing, you have to try.
The writing skills that I find the most valuable was reading my partner reading my essay out loud. It really helped me a lot mostly struggle a lot with grammar. Just reading it out loud made my creativity had increased. I feel like revising my essay with the help of my peer/teacher made me more confident in writing my final essay. I’m going to use this skill every time I have something that is involved in writing. I am also talking about texting my friends. I learned the more practice and understanding what I have mistaken in my essay can make it easier for me to write and get better with my grammars.
My weakness in writing is that in rough draft I would make myself in thinking to make it perfect instead of letting my ideas down. It would take me around like 5 hours in writing my rough draft. Like for example, I would write one sentence and then I erased it, start over from the beginning. I’m slowly trying my best to not think to make my essay perfect on the first try.
The origin story was the hardiest essay for me because I changed my story twice. I am pretty creative but knowing there are many heroes that are already been written. The essay that I had written had to relate to the audience that I’ve to choose to talk about. There shouldn’t be any stereotype or racism to the story. I was very challenging. I wrote a 9-page origin story and as I read to myself, it just didn’t make sense. So I had to make a choice to start over in making another hero story that relates to my audience. At least I got it over with but I did learn some skill from writing an origin story. Origin story did let my creative mind to go all out.
My greatest strength is just being creative that’s all.
Every person that had my essay being read to it really helped me out. My peers would give amazing advice about my writing. Sometime I would have something in common with them. I can learn from my mistake for them. And that they can take my mistake to compare to their essay to make it better. It is like one to one.
