Chapter 12:
Page 116-Alfred sleeps through his alarm then is awoken by a phone call. The call was from Aunt Pearl to tell him that he needed to give a message to Dorothy, but he forgot.
Page 119-Major tells Alfred that Hollis and him are going to Coney Island. They asked if he wanted to come. He said yes, so Major picked him up in his car.
Page 122/123-Major and Alfred are waiting for the boys to return with food until the police show up to check IDs and Registration of the double parked cars. Alfred finds out that Major stole the car, so they start running. As soon as Alfred stops, he gets some food but throws it up.
Page 132-Alfred decides to give up on being a boxer. Before he left he asked Donatelli if he would have been a contender, but he said that he wouldn't know until he was hurt for the first time in a fight.
Chapter 13:
Page 133-Alfred decided to continue boxing with Donatelli. He got better the more time went on at the gym.
Page 137-Lou Epstein came by the gym to check Alfred. Bud and Lou caught up while Alfred got dressed.
Page 138-On the way out Alfred was stopped by Lou. They walked out together, and Lou told him that he was good and glad he didn't take his advice on quitting. He said that Alfred could start working the cash register.
Chapter 14:
Page 140-It was the morning of Alfred's first fight. Aunt Pearl wondered why he wasn't going for a run and asked if he was sick or got fired. He told her no and he was fine. He told her that he had a secret that he would tell her later.
Page 144,145,146- At ten o'clock Henry comes to Alfred's house. They go to the gym where Mr. Donatelli is waiting for him to make sure he has his amateur card and fitted mouthpiece. Donatelli tells Alfred and Henry to take a cab to Spoon's place.
Page 153- Spoon's wife, Betty, made Alfred a steak. He took a nap after that.
Page 154,155,156- Alfred wakes up and goes to the gym that he will be fighting at with Donatelli and Henry.
Page 162- Finally after watching the other matches, it is Alfred's turn to fight. His opponent Joe Rivera from the Bronx.
Page 166-The fight continues until time is up and all the rounds are over. Alfred won by majority votes.
Page 167-Before the final bell, Rivera landed a punch in Alfred's stomach.
Page 168-Mr. Donatelli whispered into Henry's ear that Alfred winning wasn't enough.
Chapter 15:
Page 169-Alfred got home to find Aunt Pearl waiting for his return. She asked him why she had to find out about his fight from Mr.Epstein. He said that he knew she would try to stop him.
Page 171-Aunt Pearl tells Alfred that when she was 17, she wanted to be a stage performer. She explained that she couldn't sign for herself because she was underage, and her mom wouldn't sign because she thought "stage shows were sinful". Alfred asks what happened afterword. She explained that she met her husband and had her children, but her husband died before her twins were born.
Page 172-Alfred, trying to comfort her, says that he would have been very proud of them. He also understood that she only wanted to try to be something. As she wipes her eyes, she asked Alfred if he enjoyed the win. He said no. She asked if he was going to quit now. He said no.
