15 yaşına henüz basmış genç dizinde kemik veremi olduğunu öğrenir. Kemik veremine yakalanan insanların bakımları zordur. Çok rahat etmeleri gerekir. Maddi yönden de masraflıdır. Bu sebeple gencin ailesi genci Erenköy'deki paşalarının evine gönderirler. Genç paşa ile çok iyi anlaşır. Buraya her geldiğinde paşa ile keyifli sohbet geçirirler. Paşa, genci rahat ettirebilmek için hiçbir masraftan kaçınmaz ve onun mutluluğu için her şeyi yapmaya hazırdır.
Genç paşanın kızı olan Nüzhet'e aşık olur. Nüzhet 18 yaşında genç bir kızdır. Genç, kolay kolay kimseyle konuşmayan (Paşa hariç) kimseye derdini açmayan biridir. Nüzhet de tam tersine çok konuşan rahat bir kızdır. Sürekli gençle konuşmaya çalışır. Nüzhet, genci geceleri odasına çağırır ve sohbet ederler. Bir gün genç dayanamayıp Nüzhet'i öper. Nüzhet önce şaşırır ama sonrasında o da gence karşı bir şeyler hissetmeye başlar. Fakat Paşa'nın hiçbir şeyden haberi yoktur.
Paşa, Nüzhet'i zengin bir aileden gelen Doktor Ragıp Bey'le evlendirmeye karar verir. Doktor Ragıp sürekli köşke gelip gitmektedir. Gencin dizindeki rahatsızlıktan da haberi olur ve genci tedavi etmeyi teklif eder. Bu durum genci daha çok üzer. Çünkü sevdiği kızın evleneceği adam tarafından tedavi edilecektir. Genç, bu duruma çok üzüldüğü için bacağı daha da kötü bir hal alır. Evden kaçar ve hastaneye yatar. Doktorların olağanüstü uğraşları sonucunda ameliyatla birlikte hastaneden sapasağlam çıkar. Fakat çıktığında Nüzhet'in Doktor Ragıp'la evlendiğini öğrenir. Köyüne geri döner ve hayatına devam eder.
