Jelatang adalah tumbuhan yang daunnya bermiang yang dapat menyebabkan gatal jika tersentuh kulit. Tumbuhan ini memiliki beberapa jenis. Ada yang berbatang, dan ada juga yang merambat. Jelatang memiliki daun berukuran kecil, tetapi ada juga jelatang dengan daun lebar. Tumbuhan ini memiliki tinggi sekitar 10 cm sampai 1 m. Tanaman ini kalau terkena kulit akan gatal.
Di daerah Kedurang, tanaman ini dibedakan berdasarkan bentuk dan efek gatal yang ditimbulkannya. Jelatang berdaun kecil dengan ukuran lebar sekitar cm, dinamakan jelatang ayam.
Jelatang kambing, daunnya lebih lebar dengan efek gatal yang lebih tinggi. Ada juga jelatang kerbau, daunnya paling lebar dan tebal. Lebarnya dapat mencapai 30 cm. Jelatang jenis ini menyebabkan gatal dan perih hingga seminggu kemudian. Efek tersebut tergantung dari kadar racun yang dimilikinya. Semua jenis jelatang biasa tumbuh di daerah dengan kelembaban yang tinggi.
