1. Teater dalam arti sempit dideskripsikan sebagai sebuah drama (perjalanan hidup seseorang yang dipertunjukkan di atas panggung,
disaksikan banyak orang dan berdasarkan atas naskah yang tertulis). Sedangkan dalam arti luas, teater adalah
segala adegan peran yang dipertunjukkan di depan orang
banyak, seperti ketoprak, ludruk, wayang, sintren, janger,
mamanda, dagelan, sulap, akrobat, dan lain sebagainya.
2. Seni teater tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai sarana upacara maupun hiburan, namun juga sebagai sarana pendidikan, sarana upacara, media ekspresi, media hiburan, dan juga dan media pendidikan
3. Unsur-unsur yang terdapat dalam seni teater dibedakan
menjadi dua, unsur internal dan unsur eksternal. Unsur
internal terdiri dari unsur pementasan itu sendiri, seperti
Naskah atau skenario tertulis, pemain, sutradara, pentas,
properti, dan penataan.
4. unsur eksternal adalah bagian-bagian yang bekerja di belakang layar. Seperti, staf produksi, sutradara, desainer, stage manager, dan crew lainnya
