Until the late 1700s Jews in the German speaking world were a totally segregated community, often lived in ghettos, totally seperated from the rest of the German population, usually spoke Yiddish not German, nobody considered them Germans, the french revolution was positive for the Jews, passed equal citizenship for Jews, in 1790s when things got caodic, Napolean took his armies and imposed french laws on parts of western Germany. This was at a time when most Europeans couldnt imagine JEws as fellow citizens, Napolean took his armies in to places and made it law that Jews were citizens. This created a backlash against the Jews who were viewed as the beneficiaries of this Napolean takeover. There was a huge population increase which was caused by jews moving west to avoid hatred.
