Notes

dog is sitting in a lap fast asleep as she makes snoring noises in her limp arms. Her face is tilter to her left and her chest moves up and down slowly but in a rhythm. A quilt draped across her lap and the dog hidden in it. The washing machine tumbles on with its same noises as always. Dad sleeps in the chair to the right. Facing down and then he looks up, takes a swig of coffee, and is back to work. Always working. Computer screen always his eyes glued to it. The timer goes off for the dryer and the excess noise stops. You can hear mom's breathing. The lamps on the tables are the only extra light. They are dampened by the light shades. Dad sits in the red chair and mom in the blue. Polar opposites. Creativity versus logic. Selfish verus selfless. Hot tempered and soft spoken. All rolled into one. Mom makes noises in her sleep. Possibly dreaming of nightmares or maybe her dreams she never chased. Her book sits beside her untouched. Her coffee getting cold. She is exhausted. His eyes are slowly closing. His hand still on the touch pad of the computer. His legs crossed and dirty feet on the coffee table. The clock ticks and he wakes up. Back to work.
