BalIkesirliler Redd-i İlhak Cemiyeti'ni kurarak silahlı direniş kararı aldı. Kısa zamanda gelisen karşı koyma hareketi sonucu Akhisar, Ayvalık, İvrindi cephelerinde Yunanlılara karşı 13 ay direnildi. 30 Haziran 1920’de işgal edilen Balıkesir 6 Eylül 1922’de Yunan işgalinden kurtuldu.
Reddi İlhak Cemiyeti (Dernek)
Batı Anadolu Bölgesi'nin Yunanistan'a katılmasını önlemek için kurulan derneklerin genel adı. İlk önce Balıkesir Reddi İlhak altında kurulan bu derneğin adı Reddi İlhak Hareket-ı Milliye'ye çevrildi. İzmir'de de kurulan bu derneğin amacı, İzmir ve yöresinin Türk olduğunu, Yunanistan'a verilmemesi gerektiğini, yayın yolu ve direnme hareketiyle anlatmaktı.
