ASURA
Asura (bahasa Sanskerta: असुर) dalam ajaran agama Hindu adalah bangsa Daitya (atau Detya), kadangkala disamakan dengan rakshasa atau makhluk yang jahat. Mereka memiliki sifat negatif, yakni memusuhi para Dewa.
Meskipun demikian, beberapa Asura merupakan Dewa, seperti Kubera, golongan bangsa Yaksa, adalah Dewa keuangan dan kekayaan. Para Asura mengatur fenomena sosial di muka bumi seperti Baruna, Dewa air, yang juga mengatur hukum rta. Sedangkan Dewa, mengatur fenomena alam, seperti Indra, Dewa hujan, Dewa petir dan cuaca.
Dalam beberapa kitab, para Dewa adalah golongan bangsa yang memiliki sifat mulia sedangkan Asura sebaliknya. Ada yang disebut daiwi sampad, yakni sifat-sifat mulia (sifat para Dewa), dan sifat-sifat buruk, atau asuri sampad (sifat para Asura). Yang dimaksud sifat para Asura yakni: angkuh, membanggakan diri, marah, bodoh, bertindak kasar, keras kepala, gila harta, dan menganggap diri sendiri yang terpenting.
Dalam ajaran Buddha, Asura merupakan makhluk supernatural dalam kosmologi agama Buddha.
