Natural selection is like a person, in my mind, that goes through and inspects the genes and such, when the person finds something good that will help the organism survive longer, the person duplicates the good gene in the offspring of the original organism with the mutation.


Charles Darwin
lived in the 1800's
Was considered the Founder of the Theory of Evolution.
Was a natural scientist. studied geology and most things of nature.
Wrote On the Origin of Species which laid out the foundations of natural selection.
died 80's or 90's.
funded expedition to South America on the HMS The Beagle.
not mention the evolution of mankind purposefully.
mainly talked about animal species changes.
Darwin's Finches, discovered in the Galapagos Isles.
noticed that birds were similar in almost all ways, except beak shape.
theorized islands were drifting apart, birds that thrived in environment stayed in that environment.
Micro evolution= changes made in a species based on geography.
*most of the specimen collecting was done by his man-servants.

Dominant and Recessive Traits
example, brown eyes.
dominant gene is always expressed, no matter what.
recessive genes only appear when their is no dominant trait.
phenotype= things that you see about a trait
genotype= things that are about the genes that you might be able to see but might not.
homozygous= same genes
heterozygous= different genes.
