marcus boone and portia lin--three and two, respectively--were always going to get together, regardless of whether or not one died. oh, and also, three's a total bottom and two is definitely a top. here's the proof.

in the early episodes of season one, two and three have sex. two tells one that it's merely for convenience because she didn't have feelings for three and so wouldn't make things awkward, like it would be if she'd slept with him because they had feelings for each other. however, she eventually does sleep with him, and the only awkwardness arises as a result of one's stereotypical expectations of what a relationship entails: he tries to hug her from behind, and she nearly dislocates his shoulder. she then tells him that they need to stay professional and that them having sex didn't give him the right to start acting like any other lovesick couple, which is proof enough that no such entanglements occurred (at least, not on her end) and her initial concerns were irrelevant.

two was never going to be the type of lover that most people expected her to be. one's expectations might stem from the fact that he has a wife before the start of the series. like three's habit of spinning his gun, it might be muscle memory, or it might be instinct, like how it was when he blocked four from drawing his sword while simultaneously drawing his own gun. that being said, two's aversion to stereotypical romance might also be instinctual, or muscle memory. we know that she had a relationship before the series, before she joined the raza crew, even, but this might be an indication that even that relationship had a different dynamic than most relationships do.

that being said, i dont' think one and two would have worked out. they both had unfair expectations of each other--two expected one to back her when making decisions, and one expected two to be the lovey-dovey lover that he probably subconsciously remembered his wife being. we even have proof of this: in the alternate dimension episode, one is alive and yet two and three still get together. the only difference in this universe is that they never lost their memories, so this indicates that even before the memory wipe two and three had feelings for each other, or were at least gravitating towards each other. this is true regardless of whether or not the alternate dimension versions of one and two slept together or tried their hand at becoming a "thing".
