Felsefe neden eski yunanda doğmuştur ?
Milâddan 500-600 yıl öncelerinde İran devleti Avrupayı da hâkimiyeti altına alıp etkinliğini yaymaya çaba harcamıştır. Bu girişimleri, özgürlük âşığı küçük bir ulus olan Yunanlıların direnişi ile karşılaştı. Yunanlılar İranlıların çok güçlü donanmasını yok etmeyi ve ordusunu denize dökmeyi başardı. Böylece kültür çevremizin tarihinde yeni bir ulus olarak Yunanlılar sahneye çıkmış oldu.
Yunanlıların İranlıları bozguna uğratmaları, ulusal birliklerini belgeleyen tek görüntü olarak kalmıştır. Çünkü bu özel karakterli ulus, Babil, Mısır ve İranlıların aksine, sürekli olarak dağınık bir yaşam sergilemiştir. Yunanlılar tarihlerinin hiçbir döneminde sistemli ve bütüncül bir devlet kuramamışlardır.
Sürekli biri ötekiyle çatışmış ve iç savaşlar ile kendilerini yıpratıp bitirmiştirler. Yunanca'da "polis" kelimesinin hem kent hem de devlet anlamına gelmesi dikkat çekicidir. Yunanda her kent bağımsız bir devletti. Çatışmalar yalnızca bu bağımsız kent devletleri arasında olmaz, aynı kent içindeki sınıflar ve bireyler arasında da sürdürülürdü.
