Mitologi Nordik
Mitologi Nordik merupakan kepercayaan masyarakat Eropa Utara (Denmark, Norwegia, Islandia, dan Swedia) sebelum kedatangan agama Kristen. Kepercayaan dan legenda ini menyebar ke negara-negara Eropa Utara lain, termasuk Islandia yang memiliki sumber-sumber mitologi tersebut.
Semua itu ter-rangkum dalam buku Edda (Penulis -> Snorri Sturluson). Mitologi tersebut ditulis sebelum dan setelah kedatangan agama Kristen di Eropa Utara.
Dalam mitologi Nordik, dikenal adanya sembilan dunia, yang mana sembilan dunia tersebut dihubungkan oleh pohon Yggdrasil.
Menurut mitologi Nordik, Ada tiga golongan makhluk yang lebih berkuasa daripada manusia, yaitu: Æsir, Vanir, dan Jotun. Æsir dan Vanir merupakan golongan yang sangat dekat, karena merupakan golongan para Dewa.
Musuh para Æsir dan Vanir adalah para Jotun atau para raksasa. Mereka mirip dengan para Titan dan Gigantes dalam mitologi Yunani. Kata 'Jotun' sering diterjemahkan sebagai raksasa, meskipun kata 'Troll' atau 'setan'. Para Jotun atau raksasa tidak selamanya jahat.
Æsir sebagai golongan para Dewa berselisih dengan Jotun, meskipun para Dewa dan Jotun pernah menjalin hubungan dan saling menikah, seperti Thor yang menikah dengan Járnsaxa.
