Each of his triads were groups of 3 elements.
The appearances and reactions of an element were similar in their triad.
He also discovered the relative atomic mass number of the middle element in each triad were very close to the average relative atomic masses of the other two elements.
This gave a clue to other scientists that relative atomic masses were important when arranging the elements.
Transition metals have a high melting point, whereas group 1 metals have a low melting point. They are both shiny. Group 1 metals are more reactive than transition metals. The boiling points of some Group 1 metals are relatively high but compared to those of the transition metals, they are quite low. The density of transition metals is high. Group 1 Metals react quickly and vigorously with water, whereas Transition metals dont react vigorously with water at all. Transition metals make colourful compounds, Group 1 metals don't. Group 1 metals form a 1+ ion, whereas transition metals form ions with different charges.
