Definition - way to hide (encapsulate) data and implementation details within a class, thus hiding complexity.
eg: Customer class - name, email, address are all hidden within the class. No other code can access these data fields. Code (retrieve, validate, save) is also hidden within the class. Thus no other code in the application needs to know these details.
