then block size 256-240 = 16,
ok now 16 is the block size, now divide 149 by 16 u wil get 9.1 somthin,
leave the decimal part tat means tat this ip is of 9th subnet and multyply 16 with 9 u will get 144
this will b ur first ip of the range i.e 192.168.1.144 now to find the last ip which is the broadcast ip of the range add 15 with 144 u will get159 therefore 192.168.1.159 is ur answer! (or u can multiply 16*10(it is 10th subnet ie next subnet)=160.
so 160 is the first ip of 10th subnet and 159 is the last ip or broadcast ip of previous ip range)
do some que of this type, by dividing the block size with given IP , practice more on it u will find this thing too easy.... and remember , divide block size with the num present in the effective octet like if mask is 255.255.240.0, then divde the third octet of the Ip add with 16 , if ip is 172.16.140.3 then , 140 by 16............
