Converting Units:

What is a rate?
A rate is a ratio that compares two quantities with different units of measure.
Example of a rate:

Unit rates
A unit rate is a comparison of two measurements where one of the terms (usually, the second term) is goldD11start color goldD, 1, end color goldD.
Examples of a unit rates:

Finding unit rates
To find a unit rate, we divide the first quantity in a rate by the second.
Example:
A plane flew 765765765 miles in 555 hours.
765div5=153765÷5=153765, divided by, 5, equals, 153

Let's look at an example.

How many birthday cakes can Mark make in purpleD55start color purpleD, 5, end color purpleD days?
First, we find the unit rate.
Mark makes cakes at a unit rate of 666 cakes for every 111 day.
Now, we can use the unit rate to find how many cakes Mark makes in purpleD55start color purpleD, 5, end color purpleD days.
