The key to developing an effective sales force is training, however, selection plays a large part in the process as well. This is similar to the argument if athletes are born or made. Not everyone is born with LeBron James talent (or height) nor with his dedication to sport. How are some better than others in specific tasks. It is honing of skills which makes us experts in their field. However, this is only part of the story. We must be willing and able to accept training, and put it to use. There are an endless amount of training programs and techniques available to create better salespeople, but in order to be successful, the tools must be used. We need need tenacity, motivation and the right attitude. Although, these are not trainable skill? On the flip side, learning the right way to approach a customer, how to listen and ways to react are trainable. Becoming an effective salesperson "comes from ongoing learning and self awareness"which many have discussed like one of my favorite Zig Ziglar who encouraged salespeople to "commit to a lifetime of learning and training" in order to be successful.
