- Adressraum ist deutlich größer ~3,4 x 10 hoch 38 im Vergleich zu ipv4 mit 4,3 x 10 hoch 9
Darstellung ist hexadezimal statt dezimal
- die ipv6 adresse wird aus der mac adresse generiert, der interface identifier, bestehend aus 64 bit ( Modified-EUI-64-Format )
- wenn ein host ipv6 aktiviert hat dann vergibt er sich selber die link lokale adresse.Der hintere teil der ip adresse besteht aus dem interface identifier und ist somit bei beiden adressen gleich( link lokal and global)
Damit der Host eine globale adresse bekommt gibt es 3 wege : manuell konfigurieren, SLAAC , DHCPv6
bei der stateless erzeugt sich der ipv6 host seine ip adresse selber, stateful dagegen bekommt sie zugewiesen
