Dear Diary,
Today I went on a thirty minute walk. I left my house and made my way down Lindlings towards the local shops and pub which were built on the side of a hill in 1958, the rest of Chaulden began as a neighbourhood in 1953, as it was just being built . The Land in which Chaulden is built is mostly chalk and, in fact the name Chaulden translates as ' chalky valley '.
I then made my way down the hill towards Pixies Hill road where there is a primary school called Pixies Hill which is surrounded by hedges and mature trees. This school used to be a childrens camp which was later converted to the first school to serve the Chaulden area.
As I continued my journey to the bottom of Pixies Hill road you come to a field called Chaulden Meadow which runs down to the canal. The canal, which in the past served as a major route for industry between London and the Midlands is the lowest point in the Chaulden/Boxmoor area.
Chaulden Meadow is a sloping recreational playing field. Over the years it has been home to many football, rugby and cricket matches. There is also a childrens park and play area.
The lane just before you get to the playing fields is called Chaulden lane. In History the lane is thought to have preserved the route of Akeman Street, the Roman road along the Bulbourne valley. The first section of the lane on the opposite side from the playing fields has housing development and as the playing area ends, the lane becomes narrower and is tree lined on both sides with mature tree's.
The route back to my home, from here, if I were to complete a half hour journey, would take me up a steep hill called Pouchen End Lane and then across farm land until I once again meet up with Lindlings, in the heart of residential Chaulden...
