Later on in the story, we as readers learn that Gregor was growing apart from his family, and was already antisocial. All these factors added together tell me that Gregor was a very unattached person and had a skewed worldview.
2. When Gregor’s parents first see him after his transformation, do they recognize him as their son? What do their initial reactions suggest about their attitude toward their son?
I would say they do, because his mother faints, and his father cries. This could also possibly mean that they believe the insect has eaten him, but I don't think that is the case. Initially, their reactions would lead me to believe that they had feelings for their son, and were upset/sad.
3. How does each family member react to Gregor after his transformation? How do these reactions differ from one another? What do they have in common?
The sister continues to show how close their relationship had been, as she cares for him and feeds him. The mother has a desire to see Gregor, but is dissuaded by her family. The father distances himself and skulks about having to work now. These reactions all differ in that each family member has different feelings toward Gregor, they are similar in the way all the family is in agreeance about keeping Gregor.
4. What things about Gregor have been changed? What seems to have remained the same? List specific qualities.
First and foremost his appearance has changed, he is now an insect. Gregor is still an antisocial at heart, he enjoys playing in his room and nevers tries to escape. Gregor also keeps his desire to have things from his human life, to remind him I guess, such as his photo of the woman in the fur.
5. The Metamorphosis takes place almost entirely in the Samsa family apartment. How does the story’s setting shape its themes?
