In the headliner, former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis looks to get back into the title picture when he takes on Dustin Poirier. Both men are high-octane fighters that reside in the top-20 of the lightweight division, so expect this to fight to be fireworks.
Also on the card are fighters like former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, Clay Guida and Diego Sanchez, among others. Overall, it looks to be a very good night of fights. With that, let’s take a look at the card and make some predictions for each fight.
Main Card -
Anthony Pettis vs. Dustin Poirier -
The main offering should be straight fireworks in the lightweight division, as former UFC and WEC champ Anthony Pettis takes on the oft-entertaining Dustin Poirier. Poirier is an entertaining brawler with very good boxing, but a jiu-jitsu game that often gets overlooked. His only loss since 2015 was an upset knockout loss courtesy of Michael Johnson. He knows Pettis is well-rounded too, but that he may be at a bigger disadvantage on the feet. Pettis is 2-3 since losing his UFC lightweight championship, as injuries and layoffs have definitely hurt him. However, he’s a good athlete and has the rounded game that gives most opponents a difficult time. This will be exciting, but Pettis will score a classic Pettis win here, putting his name back in the game.
Matt Brown vs. Diego Sanchez -
A guaranteed bloodbath in the welterweight division, as slugger Matt Brown takes on always tough Diego Sanchez. Brown is a power striker that is aggressive and either kills or goes out on his shield. Sanchez is the same way, though he’s arguably more durable in terms of damage absorption and ground game. Brown was one of the best welterweights in the UFC, but has gone 1-5 in his last six, though it’s come against some of the best. His last three fights were all losses by finish, either knockout or submission. Sanchez has shuffled between wins and losses since 2014, showing his failure to put a solid foothold in whatever division he competes. This will be a bloodbath, however, Brown’s striking will be able to break through Sanchez’s defenses. Brown takes the win.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Junior Albini -
Andrei Arlovski is likely looking at his last chance to stay on the UFC roster here, as the former heavyweight champion takes on Brazilian prospect Junior Albini. Arlovski is a power striker that is a legend of this sport. However, he has clearly slowed down in recent time, as he’s fallen on a five-fight losing streak. Four of those losses were by finishes as well, which shows he’s in danger of succumbing to knockout or submission. That something he will have to be wary about when fighting Albini, a big, powerful heavyweight who constantly looks for the finish. He’s well-rounded, but expect him to try and check the chin of Arlovski. In fact, his UFC debut saw him finish Timothy Johnson in under three minutes. Arlovski certainly has a chance, but it seems the UFC is trying to build this Brazilian on his name. This may be an unpopular pick, but I think Arlovski temporarily extends his UFC career with a decision victory.
Nate Marquardt vs. Cezar Ferreira -
Middleweights are looking to move into the top-15, as Brazil’s Cezar Ferreira looks to continue his good fortunes against longtime vet Nate Marquardt. Both Ferreira and Marquardt are good strikers that have a submission arsenal that can score them a win in most fights they take. Marquardt is a well-traveled veteran that has looked to be slowing down in more recent times. Of course, he has fought some of the best fighters in the world consistently, so at least he’s being challenged. He took on Ferreira’s mentor Vitor Belfort in his most recent affair but fell via unanimous decision. As for Ferreira, he’s been an enigma, as he had high hopes coming out of TUF Brazil, but has failed to crack the top-20 as he was projected to. He was on a three-fight winning streak going into his last fight but was promptly stopped in his tracks by Elias Theodorou. Though Marquardt has slowed down at this point in his career, he’s still a dangerous fighter that can compete with the best. He bests Ferreira, to gain a small measure of revenge against Belfort and his cronies.
Raphael Assuncao vs. Matthew Lopez -
An established bantamweight meets a hot up-and-comer when Raphael Assuncao works toward his long-awaited title shot against the ascending Matthew Lopez. Assuncao is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt that has diligently worked on his striking, though it’s still his weakness at this point. He’s riding an impressive two-fight win streak, earning split decisions over Aljamain Sterling and Marlon Moraes. As for Lopez, the Reign MMA rep has quietly trotted up the rankings, turning a late notice UFC debut loss to Rani Yahya into two consecutive victories over Mitch Gagnon and Johnny Eduardo. He’d be smart to stand with Assuncao, as that’s his best path to victory. If Lopez can keep his hips sturdy and keep Assuncao from grounding him, his chances go up considerably. However, Assuncao is elite at 135, and he does what he needs to get the job done here. Assuncao is the victor.
Clay Guida vs. Joe Lauzon -
Two of the longest tenured UFC fighters on the roster are set to bang at lightweight, as Clay Guida takes on Joe Lauzon. Both Lauzon and Guida are longtime UFC vets, as both have been with the company since 2006. Guida is a high-octane wrestler with a granite chin and an aggressive style. His cardio is second-to-none, as he can go at a high rate for a long time. He returned to lightweight from a failed featherweight run in his most recent fight, as he beat Erik Koch in his return to 155. As for Lauzon, he’s shuffled between wins and losses since 2015. He still is known for his great submissions and his brawling style on the feet, which is why his face off with Guida should be must-see TV. Though Guida is likely the underdog, I think he uses his unique style and seemingly endless motor to edge out Lauzon.
