OPENING STATEMENT!

Veterans Day is an official United States holiday celebrated all over the country, recognized on Nov. 11th every year, the same day that World War 1 fight, the holiday that honors everyone who served the military in the pass referred to as veterans. Veterans are people who served in the military, the US army, navy, marine corps, air force, and coast guard in times of war or peace. eterans Day, which pays tribute to all veterans, living or dead, differs from Memorial Day during which we pay tribute to those who lost their lives in combat.
The holiday became what is today on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when a truce was declared between the allied nations and Germany in the FIRST world war aka "the Great War". It was honored in many countries as "Armistice Day. in the following year it became a official government holiday in the US aftter world war 2 and the Korean war armistice day became illegally known as Veterans Day.

In the United States, Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11 every year, the same day that World War I hostilities formally ended (at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month).

3 states are home to more than a million veterans: California (1.8 million), Florida (1.5 million), and Texas (1.7 million).
The unemployment rate of post-9/11 veterans (aka “Gulf War-era II veterans”) is 6.2%.
Nearly 10 million veterans are age 65 or older.
Veterans make up 12% of the adult homeless population.
70% of homeless veterans suffer from substance abuse, while 50% experience mental health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which makes it harder to maintain relationships and hold down a job.
Many homeless veterans end up living on the streets for 8 or 9 times the length of their deployments.

HOW PEOPLE CELEBRATE VETERANS' DAY
Wear a red poppy or yellow ribbon to show support for veteran and active duty service members.
Organize a care-package packing party. If you don’t know someone currently stationed overseas, contact a nearby base or an organization like Blue Star Moms to identify troops in need.
Visit a veterans’ hospital. Chatting with elderly or injured veterans is a great way to brighten their day, plus you’re likely to hear some highly fascinating stories about their time in the service.
Get creative. Check out this article for some patriotic craft ideas. For young children, a fun project is a great way to start teaching about the holiday and its importance.
At school

Encourage your child’s teacher to develop a Veterans Day lesson plan. A timeline or short writing project is a great way for students to learn about the holiday’s history. This article offers a few other educational ideas.
