Your Marine has reported and is now in holding....
There are lots of questions about waiting/staging, being picked up and guard duty.
Staging/waiting is just that, they are just waiting to be picked up by a training company, until then your Marine could be doing Guard duty or working "parties". Guard duty is 6 weeks. Our next pick up day is November 14th, Bravo Company.
Going to share my sons discription of Guard duty when he was there.
"Sorry it's late, I just got a chance to get my phone, been on routes all day. Guard Routes are a 8 hour shifts, 4 hours walking a route or standing post, then four on standby as the QRF, quick reaction force, for another 4 hours, that's the end of the shift, then we get to take 4 hours to rest, hygiene or snack, then we take another shift. I'll be in guard station for another few weeks or so, then I'll pick up in ITB which is only 40 days or so if you take out the weekends."
QRF
"Sorry I got QRF'ed, got to ruck up and load out in the humvee and cordon an area for a possible IED with bomber on location. I like it so far, it's really laid back compared to what boot camp was, ITB will kick it back up a bit, but a lot of the guys say it's fun. And I would go to sleep, but I'm on QRF until 0200"
They also did Guard duty for some fun events, he really enjoyed it and was able to see men from bootcamp before they each started their journeys in either MCT or ITB.
They can also get Working parties and clean up around the base or at the beaches. Wherever they are needed. They will be busy!!
While in holding/Lima, they will be allowed to keep their phones. However, if they are on any kind of duty or in the field for something, they will not be allowed to be on them.
This is just a general idea about how pick up days go...
Order for pick up:
There are 300 Company spots to fill and hundreds of Marines report in each week, so on pick up days, which just means they will be put in a training Company and begin their infantry training, they have to start with who was there and move down the line.
So:
1st is any Marines that were injured in ITB training but are now healthy and ready to start training again.
2nd Marines in Guard duty (50 are chosen for this, usually by who comes in when the other group has completed a Guard cycle and is being picked up)
3rd Marines that arrived before pick up day, usually doing work details around the base
4th Marines arriving on pick up day
Hopefully this is helpful 😊
Welcome and enjoy the next phase of your Marines journey!!!
I am your Group Leader and here to answer any questions, or if you just need to talk, laugh or cry!!
