the third:

(-unrelated but ryan as the mascot does like three backflips in a row like what kind of fuckery also taylor joined the cheerleaders that's so cute)

- when troy's truck breaks down and he's like im saving for a fuel pump and chad is like "save faster" even though like what?? it was already established that troy's family is having money trouble and it's not like he wanted that to happen

- at the party, troy talks to ryan but sharpay isnt there(?) they're becoming independent. also shown by him becoming the mascot (he wore wildcat colors in the last movie)

- troy and gabriella in the tree house both show anxiety over her moving so far away to stanford, and he's supportive of her getting in but all she says about his basketball thing is that they already have his name on a locker. also, she knows that he doesn't want to be the basketball boy and yet it's still assumed that he'll be going to a u of a on a basketball scholarship

- in the treehouse she shows no regard for his personal space and just goes around picking up all of his things and lowkey making fun of him

-ryan doesn't even ride to school with sharpay anymore

- but sharpay straight up tries to evict ryan from the show (one woman show)

-gabriella looks to troy to get everyone interested in the musical even though he clearly doesn't want to do it

-ryan is so excited to choreograph the show

- darbus is the only one who seems to recognize all the stress that troy is under
- he doesn't know what he wants to do with his future and yet people still expect him to be the basketball guy

-ryan takes a LOT of convincing to get to sharpay's level of ambition and he clearly is aware of her propensity for ignoring him
- there's only one scholarship and two of them and she makes up some bullshit about them being twins

- he admits it's hard to say he loves theater to his father and teamates even though the first two movies
-he says u of a was chosen for him and he's considering other colleges
- gabriella turns the attention away to herself
- she still won't tell him about the freshman honors program thing even though it'll affect him so much

- when darbus compliments ryan's choreoraphy troy goes to high five him and it's rlly cute

- gabriella doesn't tell troy about her getting accepted to the honors program

- ryan rides a moped now because he's becoming more independent from sharpay
- he tells her that she's not gabriella

- in the junkyard he tries to articulate himself to chad but is shut down horrifically

- chad's like "that's not what i wanted to hear" when troy admits he doesn't know what he wants to do if juliard accepts him

- he says he's glad the basketball season's over (to sharpay, who doesn't recognize the significance and goes on to emotionally manipulate him into encouraging her to go)

- she admits to his face that she didn't tell him because she knew what he'd say
- she won't stop complaining about how she wishes everything would slow down
- "i always do the right thing"
- and then they both get all depressed and she sings about isolating herself in order to protect her own heart
from heartbreak while he looks all despondent and stuff
- but he makes the shot when he goes to play with his father that night, showing he's not that emotionally distressed because she's still coming down from prom

- his father asks how the show's going and troy says "you don't want to know" because he truly believes his father wouldn't care
- when they bring up julliard father says that chad would be disappointed if troy changed his mind (emotional
manipulation) but troy brings it back around and says that it's actually his father and chad would get over it
- he stands up for himself for the first time since the movies started and says that he has the freedom to
choose

- at the school he put on the wildcats uniform because it's familiar
- he basically has an anxiety attack and sings about people pushing him into things and not knowing which is
the right choice
- he also brings up confusion over gabriella
- he says the theater or stage is a good place to scream, feel free, thing
- darbus says the stage is good for self-discovery and that he seems comfortable up there. she tells him to trust
his instincts instead of telling him what to do. she's the first person to do so

- when ryan is teaching troy the moves, they both seem very comfortable with each other. troy also says that he's easier to dance with than "she" is (presumably sharpay, but gabriella could also be assumed) in a tone bordering on desperate
- after the house falls chad and taylor are obviously discussing troy behind his back (literally) and seem to be
confused or worried about his despondent behaviour

- gabriella is shown happily riding a bike around her campus while smiling, and two minutes later she's calling troy to cancel prom because she "ran out of goodbyes"
- she says she loves him (what a way to end a breakup) and calls him wildcat (again with the basketball boy
thing)
- chad's talk was meant to cheer troy up but just revealed that he doesn't understand how much troy loved her
and that he still expects troy to be the basketball game. troy admits to not seeing life as a basketball game
anymore but chad doesn't get it. also, placing gabriella next to a ball was deliberate

- she calls him crazy when he shows up in a tree and she doesn't seem that upset considering she basically broke up with him. she even looks happy that he's there, which shows that her worry wasn't the goodbyes, it was the hassle of getting to and from prom and graduation

- kelsi and ryan both kind of mirror each other in that they both escaped sharpay's shadow, embraced their theater talents independent of hers, and became unlikely friends with troy bolton.

- sharpay wants to rehearse the kissing scene. she hasn't lost her propensity for physical abuse, then.

- ryan has his own music number all about him becoming a star
- his parents are super proud, as they should be. sharpay completely dismisses him and ryan just sighs like
he's disappointed but didn't expect anything else
- when troy opens the fake doors to let everyone in he and ryan hug its rlly cute

- ryan completely ruins sharpay's solo and he looks so proud of himself

- ryan getting the scholarship represents him finally establishing himself independently of sharpay

- troy finally finds himself (he chooses UC Berkeley) but he doesn't mention gabriella completely bailing on him. he even chooses a school close to stanford, showing his dependence on her

- gabriella went to graduation even though she threw a hissy fit about running out of goodbyes
