Filmdeki ana karakterin , kurulu düzene karşı çıkmanın ve özgürlüğün sembolü olduğunu düşünüyorum . Filmde asıl anlatılmak istenilenin de ''kurulu düzene karşı çıkmanın sonucunda neler olacağı'' olduğu kanısındayım . Bu durumun sonucunda hem iyi hem de kötü sayılabilecek olaylar gelişiyor . Bir karakterin hastahanedeki sigara sorununun düzelmesi için fazla tepki gösterince kendisine şok tedavisi uygulanıyor . Aynı şekilde Mcmurphy in de filmin sonunda hastahane düzenini bozduğu için tamamen sakinleştirici bir yöntemle dizginlenmesi de örnek olarak gösterilebilirim . İyi sayılabilecek olaya ise Şef karakterinin bu düzenden kurtulmasını söyleyebilirim .
Filmin ana karakteri olan Mcmurphy in akıl hastahanesindeki diğer karakterlerle arkadaşlık bağını güçlendirerek hatta onlarla beraber bazen küçük çılgınlıklar yaparak ( bu da hastahanenin düzenini bozacak olaylar oluyor ) onların ruhuna özgürlük kattığını düşünüyorum . Zaten filmin sonunda Şef karakterinin de oradan kaçmaya cesaret etmesini Mcmurphy in özgürlükçü ruhuna borçlu olduğunu görürüz . Mcmurphy'in , Billy ve Şef karakterlerinin korkularını yenmesinde büyük bir rol oynaması da filmi güzel kılan ayrı bir olay olmuş .
