Elias sin far er fjern, men på en annen måte. Nærheten som er vist når han er hjemme i Danmark gjør det enda sterkere at han er ikke der. Skypet mellom Elias og Anton, hvor begge skjuler en hemmelighet, og Elias prøver å få det fram, skaper sterke følelser hos tilskuerne på grunn av den dramatiske ironien.
Slutten
Selv om det er mange parallelhandlinger i filmen, så er det et rød tråd som binder alle sammen. Det er hevn og vold. Filmens tema kunne blitt oppfattet som rettferdighet og konfliktløsning.
