attacks over took 900 australian lives and also Eight ships were sunk, two were beached and other 35 ships in the harbour were damaged by bomb or machine gun fire. Darwin town and the RAAF aerodrome were also heavily damaged by the raid. the town was only lightly defended.Japanese inflicted heavy losses to australian forces at little cost to themselves. Urban areas around the darwin area was also affected.
