It is as if she has always known that one day it would come to this. One day she would have to face it. Her darkest fear has been there and will one day take the light away from everyone's eyes.
Her chest was tight, agony strangling her heart with greedy hands. Anahita shook her head as tears fell from swollen eyes that had witnessed her brother, Jeremiah, go through so much hell by drowning and her being unable to save him. Closing her tired lids, she tilted her head back. "Please be safe little brother." The corner of her lips trembled when she sucked in a shaky breath. Desperation clawed its way into her core, controlling her every thought and emotion.
Raising her arms, she swivels her hips through the water, inching her way along the uneven waves. the water level is above her waist. Thin fingers grip the edges of the rocks which bound her from all sides and proceeds to lead her down a path of the unknown.
All is darkness. God only knows where she stands. Cold water licked at her face and crept under her clothes, spreading across her skin like the lacy tide on a frigid winter beach.
Light dawned on her and relief struck her. “Someone!” She shouted. “Is there anyone there!”
