Akhirnya mereka terpaksa melintasi satu sungai dan mereka telah diminta untuk membayar “harta masa lalu”. Berbagai cobaan untuk melintasi sungai itu tidak membuahkan hasil sehingga Amata memikirkan suatu usaha yaitu dengan menggunakan tongkat sihirnya untuk membawa keluar ingatannya tentang kekasihnya yang telah meninggalkannya, lalu menitiskannya ke dalam sungai tersebut.
