Rune atau yang dikenal dengan Ancient Rune merupakan huruf dan simbol yang mewakili berbagai nilai dan makna dari Alfabet Rune. Rune juga merupakan alfabet Jerman kuno yang bagi beberapa orang mirip tulisan paku. Huruf Rune ini digunakan di Eropa Utara, Skandinavia, Kepulauan Britania, serta Islandia sejak tahun 100 B.C.E. hingga 1600 C.E. Rune yang dipelajari di Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry diberi nama 'Study of Ancient Runes'.
