" TEMBIKAR "
Tembikar adalah alat keramik yang dibuat oleh perajin. Tembikar dibuat dengan membentuk tanah liat menjadi suatu objek lalu dibakar pada suhu minimal 500 C.
Contoh tembikar: kendi, guci, pot, piring, tempayan.
Cara pembuatan tembikar:
1. Pengambilan tanah liat
Ambil yang berwarna merah kecoklatan atau putih kecoklatan.
2. Persiapan tanah liat
Tanah liat disirami air lalu didiamkan 1-2 hari. Setelah itu, giling.
3. Pembentukan
Menggunakan alat-alat yang disebutkan tadi. Tangan untuk membentuk tanah liat sesuai bentuk yang diinginkan, kaki untuk memutar perabot.
4. Penjemuran
Namun sebelumnya, tembikar yang hampir jadi dihaluskan dulu lalu dijemur hingga benar-benar kering.
5. Pembakaran
Tembikar dibakar berjam-jam sampai benar-benar keras agar tidak mudah pecah.
6. Penyempurnaan
Tembikar dicat dengan cat khusus.
Gerabah dan tembikar sebenarnya mirip, tapi berbeda fungsinya. Tembikar biasanya untuk hiasan sehingga dia perlu dicat. Kalau gerabah fungsinya untuk membantu kehidupan sehari-hari, jadi tanpa dicat juga tidak apa apa.
Di Indonesia, pengembangan tembikar hanya berfokus pada penjelajahan bentuk. Berbeda dengan China yang memfokuskan juga pada teknik pembakaran karena setiap perbedaan suhu dapat menghasilkan tembikar jenis tertentu. Misalnya, tembikar yang dibakar pada suhu 1500 C menghasilkan porcelain.
Di Indonesia, tembikar mencapai masa puncaknya pada zaman kerajaan Majapahit sekitar abad ke-14 walaupun sebenarnya kebudayaan tembikar telah berlangsung dari zaman prasejarah. Tembikar tertua di Indonesia ditemukan di Melolo, Sumba, diperkirakan dari 3500-2500 SM.
