In developing countries like Turkey, there is a higher concentration of reputable universities in the big cities, which means that large numbers of young people study at an university that is not in their home town. While some young people with low negative affectivity welcome the change of environment and the chance to establish their own identity away from the family. Others with high negative affectivity feel overwhelmed by the new environment and responsibilities. 3 main stress factors can be identified causing depression in freshmen students such as being responsible for oneself, academic worries and unconventional social patterns.

First of all, most of freshman students in Turkey, literally 18-19 years old. According to psychology, this adolescent era has significant effects on individuals. University colleagues have suffered some problems about peaked responsibilities since most of all they have never been alone. Contrastly the high school life, no-one (any teacher) will worry about their responsibilities. Therefore, the students have worries about their freshmen term. Responsibilities have been always cause stress.

From the perspective of academic life, it can be easily said that every freshman student can be encountered with uncertainty about their academic life. To illustrate, students in high school are familiarised about their marks, situation and competitors. Nevertheless, this condition cannot articulable in academic life because starting university life can be imaginable as starting a new life.

When it comes to social patterns, freshman students may be suffered social problems which stems from starting new life, unaccustomedly social indicators, fearing of being alone. These factors may be easily result in making stress for individuals. For instance, some students have complex about being popular or some students are fearing about being a loser. Therefore, they started to improve a strategy to get over that.

To sum up, being a freshman can be defined as starting a new life. Students in Turkey have to immigrate big cities for their educations. While, most of students have not suffered this kind an experience before. Clearly, fearing of changed social patterns, academic worries and encumbered with responsibilities can be resulted in stress.
