The writer Fatima Jevric- Dakaj shows the age that is ready to learn and explore, the age that should be taught and helped to improve. The writer alone was inspired by her daughter and nephew. The book, alone, is divided into five chapters such as: “The Park”, “The School”, “Groceries and Objects”, “Pool Time” and “Exercise and Fun”. Each chapter illustrates the typical behavior of that stage and their interests. Fatima Jevric- Dakaj makes the book unique by adding parents, next to the main characters Benjamin and Mia, as invisible but always there to help the children with their guide. It is a fun book to read and it has many dialogues of both children, and parents with the children. Not only it has the entertaining aspect of childrens’ life but also the lessons about swimming, school, homework, groceries and so on.
In this book, Fatima uses her creative forces to present a true story of childhood and parenthood. While entertaining and joyful, this book also proves to be didactic and helpful to parents who are learning to adequately teach their little ones’ life's greatest lessons such as: the importance of telling the truth, doing homework, discerning right from wrong, sharing and caring for other people.
The writer also emphasizes the importance of an individual and art within the children. There are plenty of childrens’ drawings throughout the book showing us the diversity of childrens’ talents and their ideas of the same topics. This helpful and uplifting book is perfect for children of age 5 and up as well as their parents.
