the protagonist,Stanley yelnats the fourth, changes quite dramatically though out the course of the book,at the start of the novel stanley had low self-esteem.He was over weight and he was prone to having bad luck this is due to stanley's " no-good-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grand-farther" who made madame Zeroni to put a curse on all the men in the Yelnats family, the first one to surcome to madame zeroni curse was stanley yelnats the first he was robbed by kissin' kate barlow a famous outlaw in the story. in stanleys class he was always pick on because of his larger size and the teacher would allways say he was lying when a kid from his class,derrick dunne, would pick on stanley because derrick was very small compared to stanley. stanley is quite naive,innocent also he does not know how to be mean. stanley loves his parents in fact thats the reason why stanley got sent to prison because he took the shoes to help his dad with his shoe reserch.
